We’re going to explain everything you need to know about Discord events, including how to set them up.
What Are Discord Events?
Discord events are essentially glorified notifications. When you create an event, you specify information like the title, description, date, and time. You also choose whether the event is taking place in a Discord voice channel or elsewhere.
Users on the server can then mark their attendance; when the allotted time arrives, they receive a notification that the event has begun.
You can use Discord events to schedule whatever you want—gaming sessions, study groups, family catch-ups, and so on.
How to Schedule a Discord Event
To create an event, you must have the Manage Event permission. Additionally, to schedule the event in a voice channel, you need the View, Speak, and Connect permissions; if it’s a Stage channel, you’ll also need the Stage mod permission.
At the time of writing, you can only create Discord events on desktop. To do so:
In the top-left, click the server name. Click Create Event from the dropdown. Choose where your event will be: Stage channel, Voice channel or Somewhere else. If the first two, select the channel. If the latter, enter the location. Fill out the details of your event: Event topic, Start date, Start time, and Description. Click Next. Confirm the details and click Create Event.
How to Attend and Begin Discord Events
Once an event is scheduled, everyone will see X events on the left-hand sidebar; click this to see all the scheduled events. To receive a notification for when the event goes live, click Interested.
From here, an event can be shared. These invites come in two forms: as an event server invite link (for those outside of the server to attend, which only those with Invite permissions can generate) or a direct event link (for sharing with those in the server).
As the event organizer, you must click Start Event to manually begin the event. If you don’t do so within eight hours of the scheduled time, the event is automatically removed.
Schedule Games With Your Discord Friends
Discord events are basic, but it’s nice that the option exists. Why not try them out and schedule a gaming session with your friends? Discord even has built-in games that you can play within the client.
